Tips for trips for families with children and lovers of hiking. We invite you to the surrounding area of Trnava, to Smolenice and to the Driny Cave.
Molpír
Mount Molpír (354 m above sea level), on which stands prehistoric slavic fort (cannibals allegedly once lived here), is situated above Smolenice. Parking is possible near the church. The trail leads through a beautiful old apple orchard. After short time you will come to the nature trail sign, where there is a mound and reminants of the fort. At the and of the trail there is a beautiful view. Hike with care as there are snakes in this region of Slovakia. In the village of Molpír, there is also the Molpír Museum, with specimens of fauna and flora from the Small Carpathians.
Občasný Waterfall ##obr_15_vpravo##
On your way from Smolenice Castle you can see the Občasný Waterfall (cca 800 m from the nature trail and from the castle park). "Občasný" means "occasional" in slovak, and it it was named like this because it flows only occasionally, mainly in the spring time. It is a very nice stroll.
Smolenice Castle
The castle is open to the public only in summer months July and August. It is surrounded by beautiful nature with many options for walking, hiking (good hiking marking) as well as cycling.
The Driny Cave
The cave, with its lovely stalactites, is the only cave open to the public in western Slovakia. The best time to go there is during the off-season, as it is not as crowded (on Mondays the cave is closed). Parking is about 1 km from Smolenice, from the parking lot to the cave it is about 1 km uphill walk through the forest, it takes about 20 min., at the end of the walk, there is about 100 steps and you are there. Tour through the cave takes about 35 min.
